Several years ago, my dad and his friend started a yearly run on July 4th, getting a group of people together to run throughout the town with American flags. When I ran with them I would think, “Why not make a 5k out of this?” That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k, and I've been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. Within the last few years, this event was made possible through all of our helpful sponsors, racers, and the community as a whole. Last year we had over 500 runners and this year we are expecting more than 600. Last year $5,000 was donated to the Boerne Fire Department. This year, the proceeds will go to the Boerne Fire Department to provide equipment this is not in the budget and for a scholarship for someone to get there fire certification. The 4th of July to me represents freedom and I want to do my part in helping those that keep us free.
