 <p>Several years ago\, my dad and his friend started a yearly run on July 4th\, getting a group of people together to run throughout the town with American flags. When I ran with them I would think\, “Why not make a 5k out of this?” That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k\, and I&#39\;ve been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. Within the last few years\, this event was made possible through all of our helpful sponsors\, racers\, and the community as a whole. Last year we had over 500 runners and this year we are expecting more than 600. Last year $5\,000 was donated to the Boerne Fire Department. This year\,  the proceeds will go to the Boerne Fire Department to provide equipment this is not in the budget and for a scholarship for someone to get there fire certification. The 4th of July to me represents freedom and I want to do my part in helping those that keep us free.</p>
