Course Information: Swim
Starts in the Lazy River, snake* 3 ½ lengths in the small lap pool and snake 8 lengths in the large lap pool. Participants will have to get out of the small lap pool at the ladder and get into the large lap pool feet first . Please see the map for the 2 staging areas and start lines for the Competitive and Rec Divisions.
*snake= swim down one lane, flip under the lane line and swim back in the next lane continuing this until you get to the exit ladder.
An accurate time on your entry is needed to seed the swimmers. Swimmers will be seeded fastest to slowest. Since the outdoor pool is a 25 yard pool, we are asking for a 400 YARD (300 Yard for Rec division) estimated swim time even though the event will be in meters.
Course Information: Transition 1
Swimmers will exit the pool via the ladder on the northeast corner of the large lap lane pool and run through the gate leading to the transition area. The route will hug close to the Rec Center building and participants must enter to the center of the transition area. All clothes, shoes, etc must be by your bike. Team swimmers must run as all others and tag their cyclist where their bike is racked in the transition area.
Course Information: Cycling
HELMETS MUST BE WORN AND BUCKLED AT ALL TIMES. Bikes must be walked past the mount/dismount line on the emergency exit road leading to Main Street. Turn east (right) on Main Street. Turn north (left) on Flint (there will be a police person).
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A DANGEROUS TURN— YOU ARE TURNING LEFT AND THE ROAD SLANTS RIGHT (OFF CAMBER); THERE IS A MEDIAN IN THE CENTER; THE ROAD HAS SOME PATCHWORK; YOU WILL PROBABLY BE GOING FAST BECAUSE MAIN STREET SLOPES DOWNHILL AND THERE WILL, MOST LIKELY, BE A TAIL WIND FROM THE WEST. YOU WILL MAKE THIS TURN ON EVERY LAP.
Turn east (right) on Tournament of Champions drive and south (right) onto Akron (by stadium). Continue around (Akron turns into 18th Street) and go straight across Flint. Continue to Indiana and turn north (right). Continue to Main and turn east (right). Competitive Division does 4 laps and the Rec Division does 3 laps. Main Street will be closed to traffic. Please stay to the left of the cones on all laps except your last lap where you will go to the right of the cones and return to the transition area.
University Police and Corner Marshalls will be on the course. Please remember that you must ride on the right side of the road--even when turning. Only Main Street and Indiana will be closed to traffic.
University Police and Corner Marshalls will be on the course. Please remember that you must ride on the right side of the road--even when turning— and that the COURSE IS NOT CLOSED TO TRAFFIC.
Course Information: Transition 2
You must dismount at the line and put your bike back in the rack. The exit to the run will be stationed off.
Course Information: Run
This is an out and back course. Run on the left side of the track/sidewalk. The first and last 200 yards are on grass, the rest is the jogging path or sidewalk. You cannot run in the street. Run north paralleling the emergency road to the jogging track. Turn east (right) and stay on the jogging track (you will parallel Main Street, Flint Street and 18th Street). On 18th Street, continue on the sidewalk to Indiana. Turn north (right) on Indiana and east (right) on Main Street to the semi-circle parking lot just north of the Rec. The turn around will be AROUND THE SEMI CIRCLE through the parking lot. Return the same direction. The finish will be on the grass. The Rec Division will follow the same course however the turnaround will be on the sidewalk on Indiana between the United Spirit Arena and the Main Street corner.
Course Information: Finish
Please make sure you stay in the finish chute until your number has been pulled to assure you get a time. Please let an official at the finish line know if you retire from the race so we will not be waiting for you to finish. Awards will be given as soon as calculations can be made after the last participant finishes.
Race Day Information
Everyone must come to the table by the transition area between 6:15-7:00 a.m. on race morning to check in and “get numbered.” The Check-in will be located inside the Rec Center on Court 8. The early bird gets the best bike spot. The Leisure Pool will open at 7 a.m. You may set up your bike etc. beginning at 6:15 a.m.. We will line swimmers up by number at 7:20 a.m. at the respective start lines to begin promptly at the 7:30 a.m. start.
