River Relay is a thrilling and spectator-friendly event that the entire city can enjoy. Held on the first Saturday of November and offered in partnership with the San Antonio River Authority, the competitive kayak/run race is designed to encourage individuals and families to get involved in outdoor recreation and education, learn more about our environment, and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The race is a team or solo event that involves kayaking 4k down the beautiful San Antonio River and then running a 5k loop on the Mission Reach Trail to the finish line at Mission County Park. There are three ways to participate in the River Relay race: 1) An individual can choose to run the 5k land course only OR, 2) an individual can choose to kayak the 4k water course only OR, 3) a team of two can choose to split the 4k kayak and 5k run course into a relay. When racers cross the finish line, they will join friends and the community in a celebration with live music, beer from our generous sponsor Alamo Beer Company, and more, including presentation of prizes to the top racers in multiple categories.
River Relay was created to bring people from all over San Antonio to the redeveloped Mission Reach Trail and to give them an opportunity to see the River from a different perspective - on the water!
