The John Lindsey Foundation was founded to promote and/or improve public awareness of the sleep apnea problem in the commercial motor vehicle industry and to encouage legislation to address this problem that is nearing epidemic proportions. If untreated, sleep apna can lead to fatalities on the roads, such as the collision that killed John Lindsay in 2012, when a 30-ton truck slammed into the back of his car. THe JLFoundation also wants to encourage the commerical motor industry to establish and administer programs for their employees specifically for the purpose of identifying and treating sleep apnea.
