 About This Event

 All races are chip timed including the Kid’s Mile.  The Kid’s Mile will start at 8 pm.  Parents are welcome to run with kids free of charge.  The 5K/10K will start at 8:30PM.  The 5K run is very walker friendly with a 2hr cut off. The 10K is walkable but will share the 2 hr cut off. 10K runners must be at the 3.1 mile turnaround within 1 hour.

The Sand Crab starts on beautiful Porretto Beach and runs east for 3.1 or 1.55 miles (depending on the event). Then turns back to the finish. The course is lit with glow sticks and tiki torches. Runners are required to run with a flashlight or head lamp. There are 2 watertops with HEB Quench and water hit 2X ea for the 10K and 1 hit 2X for the 5K. After finishing runners receive bbq with all the fixins and cold cerveza for those of age. Extra BBQ plates available for $15 (this is a good deal).

New Kid’s Mile, sponsored by

Kid mile starts at 8PM and will run an out and back.  Time limit is 30 minutes.  This will be an out and back course and we will have course marshals and adults running with the kids to make sure they make it back in one piece.  Entry fee includes cotton tee and post race food with water and sports drink.  All kids receive a finisher medal.  Awards to top 3 boy and girl 12 and under.

  • 1st Overall M/F
  • 1st Master M/F
  • Age group top 3: 14 and under, 15-29, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and up.

Packet Pickup

Early packet pick up will be in Houston, Wednesday September 4, 10:00 am–7:00 pm and Thursday Sept 5, 10:00 am–2:00 pm at Fleet Feet on Rice Blvd both days.   Also,in Galveston at the Galvestonian Condos on  Friday, Sep 6, 10-6pm and Saturday, Sep 7th, from 10:00 am–4:00 pm.  No packets will be available at Porretto Beach

Post Race Party!!!

This includes an awesome live band, bbq and cerveza (for those over 21. We ID) lasting until 1:00 am.

  • Galveston Police Department K-9 Unit-   A portion of this events proceeds will be donated to the GPD K9 division to contribute to the care, training and multiple other items or needs necessary to efficiently and properly continue maintaining a group of quality GPD officers and their K9 partners. This division has significant impact on serving and protecting the Galveston Island community.
