A few years ago, my dad and his friend started a yearly run on July 4th, getting a group of people together to run throughout the town with American flags. When I ran with them I would think, “Why not make a 5k out of this?” That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k, and I've been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. I thought it would be suitable to give half the proceeds to a local veteran because we are doing it on the 4th of July. The 4th of July to me represents freedom and veterans have always done their part in keeping us free.
