About

Sports-related concussions are a significant public health issue due to the large number of people who incur these injuries each year, the generally young age of athletes at the time of injury and the potential cumulative effects and serious consequences of head trauma. This issue has prompted rule changes across sports. Most states have enacted laws covering their high school activities. Historically, it is estimated that there are over 300,000 sports related concussions annually in the United States alone although the media has more recently reported as many as 3.8 million concussions annually.

Upon our request, Governor Perry has proclaimed March 3rd as Concussion Awareness Day in Texas. We are truly honored by his proclamation and we are looking forward to starting a tradition in Austin by hosting the first annual Concussion Awareness Day 5K!
