Wayland Wellness Run/Walk is designed to welcome both runners and walkers to our annual springtime race ( always in April) which features a 1/2 Marathon, 10K, 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk, all of which get their name from where they start and finish -- Plainview's Wayland Baptist University.
Located less than an hour's drive north from Lubbock and an hour's drive from Amarillo in what is knows as the High Plains region of the Texas Panhandle, the university educates some 1200 students on its Plainview campus each year in a town of about 25000 residents. Also, nearly 6200 additional students receive a quality education at satellite campuses elsewhere in Texas (Amarillo, Lubbock, San Antonio, and Wichita Falls), as well as Hawaii, Alaska (Anchorage), Arizona (Phoenix, Sierra Vista, and Tucson), New Mexico (Albuquerque and Clovis), Oklahoma (Altus, Ft.Sill, and Vance AFB), overseas in Kenya, and around the world through our online Virtual Campus.
Runners and walkers will start and end at the university's J. V. Hilliard Field Athletic Complex which lies at the corner of 8th and Yonkers Streets near the center of town. Whether you run or walk, you'll enjoy the scenery as you wind through Wayland Baptist University and the streets of Plainview.
The scheduled starting time for the half marathon is 9:00 AM, followed by the one-mile fun run and walk at 9:05 AM, adn the 10K and 5K races at 9:30 and 9:45 Am, respectively. Participants may register on the day of the race if they haven't pre-registered.
