Date - Saturday, May 20, 2023

Time - 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location - JBSA Lackland Air Force Base – Chapman Training Annex (115 Medina Base Rd Building 199, San Antonio, TX 78227)

 

The Challenge

The San Antonio Sports Tough Challenge looks to invite area high school teams to connect in the ultimate test of teamwork and toughness designed to pit students against each other in a challenging and fun-filled competition that includes unique military training obstacles and challenges.

 

Format

Forty (40) team spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis to San Antonio area high schools. Teams will have the option to compete in one of our three (3) high school divisions. All divisions will require a total of eight (8) high school students who will be working together as a team to complete the dynamic Team Tough Challenge along with several other Battleground Challenges with our military partners.*  See below for team division options.

 

Divisions

Female: 8 female students on a team competing against other female teams

Male: 8 male students on a team competing against other male teams

Co-Ed: 4 male students & 4 female students competing against other co-ed teams*

*Co-ed division teams must have equal number (4) of both males and females on team

 

Team Coach - High School Coach or JROTC Instructor

Each team registered MUST have at least one adult Team Coach who will be responsible for recruiting their 8-10 students to fill their roster. Team Coach will also be responsible for monitoring the status of their student’s registration completion.

Responsibility lies on Team Coach to have entire roster registered by May 1, 2023. Team Coach will also communicate event details, schedule and all other logistics related to event. Team Coach will also work with assigned Military Captain to ensure communication and engagement with captain and team. These opportunities for engagement will include optional online video calls. Teams may have two (2) adult Team Coach but both will still be required to complete registration.

 

Military Team Captain

Each team will be assigned one U.S. military member who will serve as their Military Captain. Captains will serve as assistant to Team Coach and give guidance and advice to team prior to event and during event competition. Military Captains will also have access to students contact information. Captains will be in attendance on event date to provide coaching and support as teams complete the challenge. Military Captains will be providing by the: U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, the United States Coast Guard, and other military branches. 

 

Military Team Captain Engagement

Military Captains will be connected with their teams as early as April 10.  Military Captain will be provided team’s contact information prior to training days and can begin reaching out to both registered students and high school coach at their earliest convenience and as much as they’d like leading up to the event. Teams and Military Captains are encouraged to host video calls and communication as needed. 

 

Patriot's Cup - Military Tug-of-War

After the female division competes in the morning and the winning team is awarded, all teams will take a break from the competition as teams will spectate and show support for their military captains who will be competing against one another in a round robin style tug-of-war tournament amongst our military branch partners which includes: U.S. Army, The Marines Corp., U.S. Coast Guard, and other branches to be announced later...

The winning military branch will be award the 2023 Team Tough Patriot's Cup! 

 

Schedule

To be announced early May... Event will take place on Saturday, May 20 from 7am to 1pm.

Patriots Cup (Military Tug-of-War) - Will take place after the female division competes and the winning team is awarded

 

FEMALE DIVISION: May 20, Time tentatively 8 A.M.(AWARDS CEREMONY TIME TBD)

MALE DIVISION: May 20, Time tentatively 9 A.M. (AWARDS CEREMONY TIME TBD)

CO-ED DIVISION: May 20, Time tentatively 10 A.M. (AWARDS CEREMONY TIME TBD)

 

Awards Ceremony

At the conclusion of each division, the top team with the lowest time in each division (3 total champions) will be crowned Team Tough Challenge Champion with an exclusive custom Team Tough trophy that will be presented by our U.S. Military Partners.
